Proofreader M.I.A.

The proofreader who let this package leave the warehouse with these typos, should be reprimanded at the very least:

Humidifier

Can you see it? Can you see the problem? Here - let me zoom in for you:

It should be “Design”, not Deisgn”. The word “Limited” should be capitalized, too - right?

I may have found a new job for myself…

55555

How often do you get the chance to record the moment that your car’s odometer rolls over to a special number, like 55555?

55555

Probably about as often as you get the chance to record the moment it rolls over to 44444:

44444

We’re two for two!

44444 was recorded on the move back to Chicago from Las Vegas while the car was in motion (I think I was the one who leaned over to take the pic), and 55555 was recorded on the way back to Chicago from Fond du Lac after Thanksgiving.

We actually pulled over to take the picture of 55555 after slowly driving around the gas station trying to make it turn over without having to go into traffic. Since that wasn’t working fast enough for us, we decided to pull onto the frontage road. We drove a little way and pulled off to the side with the emergency flashers on to take that all important photo.

66666 here we come!

Happy Birthday to ME!

Happy Birthday to me…two days ago!

Yes - on Friday, November 16th, I celebrated my birthday! That’s November 16th for those of you who would like to mark it on your calendars with a bright red circle and sparkles. You know. For next year…

Anyway, my parents came down from WI to visit for my special day!

Mom Kim Dad

I was very excited and had a wonderful time visiting with them and showing them our new place.

My mom even baked a Lemon Meringue pie and Apple Dumplings (at my request) for us to enjoy!

Pie

Dumpling

Kind of different for me since I usually bake and decorate a cake, but I generally don’t make these two desserts for myself so I really enjoyed them. Let me tell you - they were delicious!

A very Happy Birthday, indeed!

Not again.

Yesterday, when we came home from a walk, we noticed a bug on the wall.

Wasp wall

Do you see it there in the upper right corner? Do you know what it is? I’ll tell you what it is.

A WASP!

Wasp

Nooooooooo! Not again! Not again with a wasp infestation! Why why why?

Luckily, we only saw this one. Since it was so high up, we decided not to kill it. We also didn’t want to fall off the stepladder if the little bugger rushed us, so leaving it alone was the thing to do.

This morning it hadn’t moved from it’s position, so I thought maybe it had died and was just stuck to the wall. We went for another walk, and when we got back it was gone. We thought it fell to the floor until Chris noticed it slowly walking along the window screen.

Wasp screen

Dang it! Now what? We thought about catching and releasing it, but common sense got the better of us and we put that idea to rest.

We’ve decided to just leave it alone and live out the remainder of it’s life. Unless it attacks us. Then, all bets are off.

UPDATE (11/15/07): The wasp started to get a little more animated this morning, so we agreed that we needed to do either a catch and release, or a mercy killing. We opted for the catch and release and it was a success! I took a large purple plastic cup and some cardstock, and trapped the wasp inside. We scurried to the back porch where Chris pushed me outside with the cup and shut the door. I took the cardstock off the cup, ran for the door, and we barricaded ourselves inside, peering through the blinds. I watched the wasp rise up out of the cup and fly away into the cold Chicago air. It probably dropped dead three feet from the apartment, but we feel good that it could live out it’s life naturally, and not beaten to death with a rolled up newspaper (which was on hand).

Yay - everyone wins!

Gas prices

Here’s a belated Halloween picture sure to scare the pants off of you:

Gas prices scary

Boo!

Actually, this gas station opened the next day right across from our apartment, and they were just testing the sign out.

At least the Unleaded prices were reasonable…

How to make more work for yourself

As if unpacking an apartment wasn’t work enough, why not throw caution to the wind and unwrap new things for your house before making sure they actually fit? I did that with a couple items for the bathroom, and then with a lampshade. Luckily, I only sliced the plastic off of one of them before trying to fit it onto the lamp only to discover that it…well…it didn’t fit. It just teetered there like a bobblehead.

No sense in keeping something that doesn’t fit, so we decided to return them. How to make it look like it’s unwrapped counterpart? Piece the plastic wrapping together with tape. In my defense, I did see that the pieces I had cut off had been taped together to begin with, so I figured…if the store can do it, why can’t I?

20 minutes later, I put the wrapping back together again. Can you tell which one is my handiwork?

Lampshades

Mine is the one on the left.

Not too shabby!

We picked up another set of shades and I had the same problem. Luckily, Chris came to the rescue after I mentioned that I couldn’t screw the new shades onto the lamp, and he kindly told me that they don’t screw on at all. Turns out, I had screwed off part of the lamp itself when I took off the old shades, and was trying to screw on a shade that doesn’t screw on.

Follow?

Just another silly Kim moment…

You guessed it!

Ding ding ding! You guessed correctly - we are once again in Chicago!

Yes, we moved back a week ago after spending only 7 months in New York City. We love New York, but after this last time being bombarded by stress, I’d just like to visit it. Someday.

I’m sure you’d love to see what our new place looks like, so here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

First - the 26 foot truck that Chris drove with me and meowing Matilda squished into the cab:

Three different apartments in 11 months. That might be some sort of record, no?

At any rate - we are truly happy to be back in Chicago! Again! For the fourth time!

Yay!
