Walking along in our neighborhood, we pass by this store a lot. Only recently did I actually read what one of the signs said:
What does that mean? Do I need to shop with exact change? Am I only allowed to use a credit card? Do you have something against coins?
Don’t you know that change is good?

I barely made it to the train this morning by scurrying up the stairs and hurling myself into the train car, seconds before the doors closed. Happy with my luck, I sat down, took out my book, and prepared myself for the 40 minute ride to work. Then it started.
I’ve been riding public transportation for about 10 years now. Environmentally, I’m all for it. I’ve even gotten used to the noises, smells, and crowding, but there are some days when it just gets to me. Today was one of those days.
I could see the woman in the seat in front of me taking items out of her purse. The first thing I saw was a cuticle trimmer. Eww. I watched as she sheathed that tool and started to breathe a sigh of relief until I saw the nail clipper come out and the clipping began. What in the world possesses some people to do personal body maintenance in a public place where everyone is trapped in a rolling sardine can with no hope for escape? The best I could do was move to another seat. I could still hear the ‘clip, clip, clip’ from her area, but at least I wouldn’t be subjected to possible pieces of nail landing on my book or in my hair.
Relaxing into my new seat, I once again began to read. Then, the guy behind me proceeded to cough up a lung.
Now, I was totally distracted. Instead of tuning out the world and enjoying my book, I ended up listening to all the different people coughing, sneezing, talking on their cell phones, and blowing out their eardrums with their iPods.
No wonder people like to drive.

Yes, Pat…I’d like to buy a vowel…
NO! No you do NOT want to buy a vowel!
I swear — every time I watch “Wheel of Fortune”, the puzzle is practically solved and the contestant STILL decides to spend $250 buying a vowel. Why do they do that? Don’t they know that it drives me crazy? Can’t they hear me yelling the answer to them through the TV?
I can see buying a vowel (or two or three) when they have absolutely no idea what the answer is. That would be a wise investment. However, when the answer is staring them in the face and they’ve got everything but one or two letters, they should save their cash and SOLVE THE PUZZLE! I know that they know the answer — they can’t fool me. Why do they torture me with their frivolous spending?
These are the things that keep me up at night…

Sounds like a children’s book, doesn’t it? Hmmm…something for me to write, perhaps?
Anyway, for a few days last month, Chris walked with me to the train that I took to work. We noticed this nice house about to be destroyed, and Chris documented the progress with his iPhone:
The next day, the house had all but disappeared:
How sad!
How many seasons did that poor little house see? How many kids grew up there? How many memories were crumbled into dust?
Poor little house.
Bye, bye, house!

Here are some pictures of me taken by Ann Brown when we went to visit her and her husband Bob in Kansas city:
Doesn’t she do great work?
There will be more to come!
