Staring contest

Matilda has taken to hanging out with the stuffed animals on the bed lately. Yes, we have stuffed animals. Shut up.

She has also held her own in a staring contest:

Go Matilda!

Egret and Heron and Turtles, oh my!

I love sitting in Central Park at a favorite pond of mine, just watching the birds and turtles. I see ducks, pigeons, sparrows, and more, but here are a few others that I’ve seen recently:

If I had a job where I could sit and watch wildlife like this all day, my life would be just about perfect.

Sigh …

Chipmunk

I’ve got a number of posts to write, but I need to gather my thoughts. In the meantime, here’s a picture I took of a chipmunk:

CUTE!

Music does not soothe all savage beasts

Matilda does not like me to play the piano. I’m not entirely sure why, as I am playing a digital piano and most times have my headphones plugged in. Meaning, she can’t hear what I’m playing and how good (or bad) it really is.

Why is this?

All she does when I start to play, is to sit nearby, squeaking out little meows, pleading (I’m assuming) for me to stop. If she is not successful, she will just disappear under the bed until I come by and let her know that I am, in fact, finished.

Is she just looking for attention? Does she want to play? I know the loud, guttural sound she makes when she wants to play, and that’s not what I’m hearing. Is she trying to sing? Does she want me to play out loud?

Do I spend a little too much time talking to the cat?

Meow!

Xylopholks

This is one of the amazing things you can see in New York City:

Xylopholks players

These two creatures are one of four in a group called the Xylopholks. According to their website, all are well-schooled in music and play different venues around the city to entertain us human folk.

The clip I provided doesn’t really do them justice (I was only using my camera video recorder), so check out their website (www.xylopholks.com) and see how wonderful they really are!

Geese

While walking in Edgewater one weekend, we happened upon these goslings:

Aren’t they adorable little baby geese?

This week while in Central Park in Manhattan, I saw these geese swim by in a pond:

I doubt they are the same geese I saw a month ago, but wouldn’t that be something?

Ah … life!

Splat!

Yesterday was my first day back to work (I’m on a 3-day temporary assignment), and while enjoying the beauty of Central Park, I see this hit the bench next to me:

Bench

Any closer and that would have landed on my head! I looked up to see if I could spot the bird who would dare do this. The sun was in my eyes, so I could only take this blind shot:

Bottom

Look at that. A bird butt just waiting to drop another bomb. Sneaky little culprit made a swift exit once it realized I had my eye on him:

Nobody escapes the lens of LoDuca!

Everybody loves the Golden Girls

Even Matilda:

See? :)

Matilda!

As promised, here are some pictures of Matilda …

Here she is waiting for Chris to come home. She sat here looking at the door for five minutes before he walked through it. Not sure how she knew, other than my telling her he was on his way. Maybe I gave off some vibes that she sensed.

Matilda waits

On this day, Matilda posed for me. Well, I don’t know if she was consciously posing for me or if she just was just so comfortable that she didn’t run away. I prefer to think she wanted her turn at modeling.

Wow … I’m really reaching for material to blog about …

I need to get out of the house more … and soon!

Rat!

Oh yes. We grow them big out here:

Rat

On occasion, we’ve seen these inflatable rats around the city. Not just here, but in Chicago as well. They are put up to signal labor disputes by union workers. This one was in front of a hotel, and when I crossed the street to walk by it, I read “no worker deserves to be exploited” on the sign around its belly.

A couple of days later, I came up behind it and noticed this sign:
